When should my child first see a dentist?
We recommend children first see a dentist when they are young, as they start to get accustomed to the sights and sounds of a dental practice. We guide parents as to the best way to clean their child’s teeth, and discuss factors that can affect their dental health as they grow. By ages 4–6, most kids visit the dentist for their routine hygiene visits. Parents are welcome to bring their child with them to their regular hygiene appointment to get them accustomed to the environment and our staff.
What preventative dental solutions do you offer for my growing child?
Routine hygiene visits are essential to review the health and growth of your child’s teeth and gums. During these visits, we can guide them as to their brushing technique as well as any dietary advice required. Preventative fissure sealants are routinely performed on adult molars that come through at both ages 6 and 12. If needed, dental imaging and X-rays are performed to review if there is any decay present in between teeth as well as the growth of the adult dentition.
Do you offer dental service for the elderly?
As we age, it gets more important to make sure that we are visiting the dentist regularly. The aim is to keep our existing teeth for as long as possible. Our team will help maintain the health of your teeth and gums, and provide information and advice on how to better look after your oral health. We offer a range of solutions too.
Do you offer kids orthodontic treatment?
Yes. Early Intervention or Phase 1 Orthodontic Treatment is becoming increasingly common. Certain orthodontic treatments are necessary to help in the growth of the child’s bone and adult teeth. Please visit our Orthodontic page for more information.

Custom fitted mouthguards can be made for your individual sporting needs. Please speak to our staff who can guide you as to what your options and costs are.
How often do my teenage kids need to see a dentist?
We recommend six monthly regular hygiene visits for all children and teenagers. During the ages of 6–12, we will review their need for any preventative dentistry, and review the growth and eruption of all their adult teeth. Once all their adult teeth have erupted, we will give options to straighten their smile if needed, and maintain their oral health with regular maintenance visits.
Should I visit the dentist while I am pregnant?
It is very important to visit your dentist before, during and after pregnancy. We understand that the first few months after pregnancy is a very important time, and things will get quite busy for you. During pregnancy, it is important to take extra care of your teeth and gums. There are risks of dental erosion due to reflux, as well as an increased chance of developing gum disease. So while pregnant, make sure you are brushing and flossing daily, practicing good oral hygiene as well as having a healthy and balanced diet. And yes, visit our team at The Smile Designer Dental Studio to maintain your six monthly hygiene visits.
